Samsung Galaxy Unpacked is scheduled for Wednesday, and it is widely anticipated that the event will introduce the next generation of the company’s Galaxy Watch series. With just a day remaining before the launch of these new wearable devices, Samsung has teased its next-generation BioActive sensor, which is expected to feature in the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. This updated sensor promises advanced predictive and preventative wellness features along with precise health measurements. Samsung has enhanced the sensor by incorporating additional LEDs and photodiodes.
In a recent blog post, Samsung provided insights into the new BioActive sensor that will be integrated into the upcoming Galaxy Watch series. The redesigned sensor boasts optimized placements to ensure accurate readings and includes blue, yellow, violet, and ultraviolet LEDs in addition to the conventional green and red LEDs.
According to Samsung, the new LEDs enhance the BioActive sensor’s accuracy in measuring various health metrics, including heart rate, sleep quality, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, and stress levels. The company claims a 30 percent improvement in heart rate measurement accuracy during intensive workouts compared to the current smartwatch sensors.
A notable new feature enabled by the BioActive sensor is the “advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index.” Samsung explains that the AGEs index is a marker of metabolic health and biological aging, significantly influenced by lifestyle and dietary habits. This index offers insights into the wearer’s biological age, assisting them in making informed decisions about their wellness journey and striving for a healthier future.
Samsung’s blog post indicates that the AGEs index could be introduced following the launch of the new wearables at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10.
