The upcoming iPhone 16 series is rumored to undergo significant changes in terms of design and display sizes, marking a departure from Apple’s tradition of maintaining consistency in these aspects over the past three years. According to leaked information, the Pro models, namely the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, may feature larger displays, while the non-Pro models, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, could sport a new camera alignment. Additionally, capacitive buttons are expected to make their debut in this year’s iPhone lineup.
Renowned tipster Sonny Dickson shared an image on X (previously known as Twitter), revealing the purported design and display sizes of the upcoming iPhone 16 models. The leak suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro might come with a 6.3-inch display, slightly larger than the 6.1-inch display found on the iPhone 15 Pro. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumored to feature a 6.9-inch display, compared to its predecessor’s 6.7-inch screen. The standard iPhone 16 is expected to retain its 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Plus may maintain the 6.7-inch screen size.
While some users may appreciate the larger displays, fans of compact phones might be disappointed by this shift. In addition to the display size alterations, the non-Pro models are speculated to adopt a vertically aligned camera module, a departure from the diagonal alignment seen in recent iPhone models. Notably, the LED flash is positioned outside the module, distinguishing it from previous iterations.
Rumors suggest that the vertical camera alignment could facilitate spatial video recording capabilities in the non-Pro iPhone 16 models. Furthermore, reports indicate that the iPhone 16 series might introduce capacitive buttons, replacing the physical power button and volume rockers. Initially rumored for the iPhone 15 series but reportedly scrapped later, these buttons are expected to offer enhanced functionality. Additionally, the Action button, currently exclusive to the Pro models, is anticipated to be present across all iPhone 16 variants.
