Apple Reportedly Adding a new ‘Repair State’ With iOS 17.5 That Keeps Find My on During Repairs

Apple is reportedly developing a new feature known as Repair State, which will enable iPhone users to maintain Find My functionality even when their device is sent for repair. This feature aims to address security concerns associated with disabling device tracking during repair processes.

Discovered within the iOS 17.5 beta update, Repair State offers users the ability to track their devices while they undergo repairs, enhancing device security and ownership verification. Previously, Apple required users to disable Find My before initiating repairs, a measure intended to prevent unauthorized service requests.

However, recent updates have introduced challenges, prompting the need for solutions like Repair State. With the implementation of Stolen Device Protection in iOS 17.3, which includes a time delay for critical settings changes, such as disabling Find My, users face a one-hour delay if they forget to enable the feature before seeking repairs.

Repair State addresses this issue by allowing users to confirm device ownership using their Apple ID and password, thereby eliminating the need to disable Find My during the repair process. This innovative feature enhances device security while streamlining repair procedures for iPhone users.
