Qualcomm has now opened its annual Snapdragon Tech Summit in Maui, Hawaii, by announcing two new 5G mobile platforms.
First up is the Snapdragon 865, which includes the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF-System. Qualcomm calls it the world most advanced 5G platforms and claims that it delivers the unmated connectivity and performance.
Moreover, the Snapdragon 865 will power the “next-gen of flagship devices”. The 865 is a successor of the 855 that powered many Android flagships from 2019.
If the name sounds much more familiar, it may be because a Chinese smartphone manufacturer previously leaked the processor. Back in the month of October, the company revealed a new device which is set to launch in 2020 that would use the Snapdragon 865. The chip also turned up in some other rumours, but Qualcomm will confirm all the details later in the Tech Summit.
The Snapdragon 865 is capable of 15 Tera operations per second (TOPS) of the AI performance. Qualcomm claims that this is around three times better performance than any other Android competitors.
On the camera front, the Snapdragon 865 boasts 2 Giga-pixels per second speed. This even enables around 8K video recording and support for around 200MP camera. The company also talked up to gaming side of its new flagships SoC, which claims the chip offers the desktop-class gaming features as well.
Moreover, finally Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 865 is number one in the CPU sustained performance, AI, 5G sustained graphics performance, modem and camera image processing as compared to Android competitors.
Qualcomm also revealed the Snapdragon 765 platform, which includes the Snapdragon 765G. It offers the advanced AI processing, integrated 5G connectivity, and some Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences.
