Nvidia has introduced two new media streaming players based on Android TV – the Shield TV and Shield TV Pro. The new Shield devices will support content upscaling of up to 4K resolution and will be available at $149.99 (approx. Rs 10.600) for the Shield TV and $199.99 (approx. Rs 14,100) for the Shield TV Pro.

Both the Shield TV and Shield TV Pro are powered by a Tegra X1+ chipset with a 256-core NVIDIA GPU which Nvidia says will offer 25 percent better performance than the Tegra X1 processor in the predecessor. The standard Shield TV comes with 2GB RAM and 8GB storage while the Shield TV Pro has 3GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage.

The new Shield TV devices run on Android TV OS based on Android 9 Pie and offer Google Assistant built-in. The TVs come with AI-powered 4K upscaling and offers support for Dolby Atmos surround sound and Dolby Vision HDR. While the standard Shield TV tales a tube-shaped form, the Shield TV Pro has the same design elements as previous Shield TV models and has a console-box shape.

Connectivity options on the Shield TV are restricted to dual-band 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet port, HDMI and microSD card slot. The Shield TV Pro additionally fears two USB 3.0 ports and a Plex Media Server. The Pro model also supports NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW game-streaming service.

The TVs are bundled with a long prism-shaped remote that offers backlight buttons, voice control and motion sensing. The remote has a dedicated Netflix button and a customisable hardware button alongside buttons for volume, forward/reverse, power, volume, home, back and voice search.
